4、ve CIOs responded to the need to reimagine software development in the wake of a massive paradigm shift?Howhastheaccelerateddemandforquick,agilesoftwaresolutionsimpactedsoftwaredevelopersintheITuengineroomnandthebusinessusersthatdependThesearethequestionsthatthisresearchsetouttoanswer.Thefindingsrev
5、ealthatlow-codedevelopmentplatformsofferorganizationsapowerful,scalablesolutioninthesechallengingtimesandisatechnologythathasquicklycomeofage.Thereportisbasedontheexperiencesofover2,000ITprofessionalsacrosssixutries,revealingclearglobaltrendsandregion-specificstories.Ituncoversarapidevolutioninsoftw
6、areneedsforbusinessesineverysector.Anditexploreswherethesechangingneedsintersectwiththeexperiencedbenefitsoflow-code-mostnotablyinproductivity,ct.andtimesavings.WithITleadersreportingthattwo-thirdsofmajorsoftwareprojectsarebehindschedule,thereisnotimetoloseinadoptinglow-code.Ourfindingsrevealthatlow
7、-codeoffersgreathopeforthefutureofsoftwaredevelopment-andisasolutionwhosebenefitsareonlyjustbeginningtobeunderstood.Itisincreasinglybeingrecognizedashavingthepowertochangewhereandhowtechnologyisused,todemocratizetechnology,andtofosterITtalentdiversityforthebetter.CHAPTERTWOMETHODOLOGYTheStateofLow-C
8、ode2021isbasedonasurveyof2,025ITprofessionals(totalaudience),comprising1,209ITleaders(decision-makers)and816softwaredevelopers(developeraudience)acrosssixcountries.TheresearchwasgovernedbyReputationLeaders,anindependentresearchconsultancy.AllITprofessionalswereemployedinorganizationswith50ormoreempl
9、oyees.ITleaderswereidentifiedaseitheraCIO,CTO.orchiefdataOHiCer/headofdata/headofdatamanagementandconfirmedashavingamajorroleintechnologydecisionsandinmanagingITresources.InterviewswereconductedonlineintheU.S.,China,theU.K.,Germany,Belgium,andtheNetherlandsbetweenMay10andJune21,2021.Themarginoferror

11、ssworld,asorganizationshavebeenrequiredtomovetheiractivityonlinewhilerespondingtothefast-changingneedsofemployeesandconsumersalike.Inthiscontext,57%ofITprofessionalssurveyedsaidthatthenumberofstaffneededforsoftwaredevelopmentisincreasing,and76%saythatdemandfordevelopershasreachedafeverpitch.Alongsid
12、ethis,61%saythecostofsoftwaredevelopmentisalsorising.Two-thirdsofmajorsoftwareprojectsarecuentlybeingdeliveredbehindschedule,andfor62%ofITprofessionals,thatbacklogisonlyincreasing.Butfarfrombeingworriedbydigitaldisruptioninapandemicworldandtheresultingpressures,themostcommonresponseamongITprofession
13、alsisapositiveone:58%saytheirorganizationisexcitedbythedigitalacceleration,andithasbroughtanewurgencyforfasterandmorecollaborativedevelopment.Indeed.45%ofITprofessionalsreportfeelinganewsenseofurgency-anditisbecomingclearthatbusiness-as-usualsoftwaredevelopmentcannotmeetthegrowingdemand.Thesepressur
14、eshaveledtoenthusiasmamongITprofessionalsfornewsolutionsanddifferentwaysofworking.ITdepartmentsareembracingopportunitiestobreaksoftwaredevelopmentoutoftheITbox:64%oforganizationshavereliedonnon-technicalstafftorelievepressureontheITdepartmentduringCOVID-19.1.ow-codeIscentraltothiseffort.Low-codeisal
15、readyusedinsomewayin77%oforganizations,and64%ofITprofessionalsagreethatlow-codeistheirgo-toworkarounddevelopmentsolution.Asmanyas59%ofprojectsusinglow-codeareacollaborationbetweenITandbusinessgroups,andaquarter(25%)reportfewerinstancesofshadowITthanbefore.ITprofessionalsusinglow-codehavequicklybecom
16、eawareofmajorbenefitstoitsuse.Twooutoffivelow-codeusersreportedmorecollaboration,fasterdevelopment,andlowercosts-andthatlow-codeprojectsreducecostsby53%andare56%faster.Thebenefitshaveflowedtothetopline,t.Customerappsbuiltusinglow-codeincreasedcustomerrevenuesbyanaverageof58%.Increasingly,low-codesol
17、utionsarebemingcentraltobusinessoperations:amongthoseusinglow-code,33%haveusedittobuildmission-criticalapps.Softwaredevelopersacknowledgeandwelcomeitsflexibility,sayingthathalfoftheireverydaydevelopmentwork(51%)couldbedoneonalow-deplatform.Withthismeslow-codespotentialtocreateabrighterfuture.Asitope
