Protocol Standards and Specification of BluetoothBluetooth uses a variety of protocols. Core protocols are defined by the trade organization BluetoothSIG (Special Interest Gr
27、oup). Additional protocols have been adopted from other standards bodies. In thissection, an overview of the core protocols and those adopted protocols that are widely used will be fullydiscussed. Core protocols provide the standards and qualification for Bluetooth products.Currently, the Bluetooth
28、specification has several versions 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 2.1, 3.0, 4.02. On April 21,2010, the Bluetooth SIG completed the Bluetooth Core Specification version 4.0, which includes ClassicBluetooth, Bluetooth high speed and Bluetooth low energy protocols. Bluetooth high speed is based onWi-Fi, and Classic B
29、luetooth consists of legacy Bluetooth protocols3.Bluetooth is a standard wire-replacement communications protocol primarily designed for low powerconsumption, with a short range (power-class-dependent: 100 m, 10 m and 1 m, but ranges vary inpractice; see table below) based on low-cost transceiver mi

The Mediation Agreement provide support for high-level application protocol orprograms which work on the Bluetooth logical link, and provide application layer with all kinds ofinterfaces (such as RFCOMM, SDP, IrDA, PPP, UDP, TSC and AT instruction set etc.).2.2. 35、tooth Core ProtocolBluetooth Core Protocol is divided into four parts as:1) Baseband Protocol (BP)Baseband layer, also known as baseband packet, is a physical layer protocol in the Bluetooth protocolstack. The Baseband in the Bluetooth manages physical channels and links apart from other services li
36、keerror correction, data whitening, hop selection and Bluetooth security. The Baseband layer lies on top ofthe Bluetooth radio layer in the Bluetooth stack. The baseband protocol is implemented as a LinkController, which works with the link manager for carrying out link level routines like link conn

The baseband also manages asynchronous and synchronous links, handles packets anddoes paging and inquiry to access and inquire Bluetooth devices in the area.2) Link Management Protocol (LMP)It is used to establish the link between Bluetooth devices, and for the control of th

It isimplemented on the host controller.3) Logical Link Control and Adaptation Protocol (L2CAP)It is an adaptation protocol which shield baseband protocol for high-level transfer layer protocol andapplication layer protocol. It provides high-level application layer and transfer layer w
39、ith more effectivedata packet format. It is used to multiplex multiple logical connections between two devices usingdifferent higher level protocols. It provides segmentation and reassembly of on-air packets.In Basic mode, L2CAP provides packets with a payload configurable up to 64kB, with 672 bytes
40、 asthe default MTU, and 48 bytes as the minimum mandatory supported MTU.In Retransmission & Flow Control modes, L2CAP can be configured for reliable or isochronous dataper channel by performing retransmissions and CRC checks.Bluetooth Core Specification Addendum 1 adds two additional L2CAP modes to
41、the corespecification: Enhanced Retransmission Mode (ERTM) 4 and Streaming Mode (SM) 5. These modeseffectively deprecate original Retransmission and Flow Control modes.Reliability in any of these modes is optionally and/or additionally guaranteed by the lower layerBluetooth BDR/EDR air interface by
42、configuring the number of retransmissions and flush timeout (timeafter which the radio will flush packets). In-order sequencing is guaranteed by the lower layer.4) Service Discovery Protocol (SDP)SDP play a very important role in Bluetooth framework and it is the base of all of user mode. It allowsa
43、 device to discover services supported by other devices, and their associated parameters. For example,when connecting a mobile phone to a Bluetooth headset, SDP will be used for determining whichBluetooth profiles are supported by the headset (Headset Profile, Hands Free Profile, Advanced AudioDistr
44、ibution Profile (A2DP) etc.) and the protocol multiplexer settings needed to connect to each of them.Each service is identified by a Universally Unique Identifier (UUID), with official services (Bluetoothprofiles) assigned a short form UUID (16 bits rather than the full 128). In Bluetooth system, on

HCI ProtocolHCI (Host Controller Interface) standardizes communication between the host stack (e.g., a PC ormobile phone OS) and the controller (the Bluetooth IC).
46、 This standard allows the host stack or controllerIC to be swapped with minimal adaptation.HCI belongs to Bluetooth Protocol Stack, which is a standard interface, defined by BluetoothSpecification. It fits for the hardware of Bluetooth communication module. The definition describes theinterface betw
47、een HCI driver and host controller firmware.HCI transport layer is the physical interface between Bluetooth host and Bluetooth host controller.Presently, the physical interface of HCI transport layer was constituted by Universal Serial Bus (USB),Serial Port (RS232), Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (UART) and personal computermemory card7.
