It is suitable for application by brush, or spray.NOTES:1Type 2 paint specified in the Standard is referred to in AS/NZS 2312 as Paint ReferenceNo. C02.2Type II paints may be used as detailed for systems ACL2, ACC2-6, EHB4, EHB6, PSL1, PUR4, PUR5 and PUR7 in AS/NZS 2312.3Appendix A contains recommendations and advice on information that should be provided by the purchaser at the time of enquiry or order.4Additional information on the use and application of organic zinc-rich primer is provided inAppendix B.1.2 REFERENCED DOCUMENTSA list of the documents referred to in this Standard is contained in Appendix C.1.3 DEFINITIONSFor the purpose of this Standard, the definitions given in AS/NZS 2310 and those below apply.1.3.1 Organic zinc-rich primerA material consisting essentially of a dispersion of metallic zinc dust in an organic medium.1.4 CLASSIFICATIONOrganic zinc-rich primers shall be classified as follows: (a)Type 1a single-pack primer.(b) Type 2a multi-pack primer that hardens by reaction of its constituents after mixing.1.5 COLOURThe colour of the product is usually characteristic of the zinc dust pigment, but to overcome the difficulty of differentiating between a coat of paint and a freshly prepared surface, the product may contain suitable tinting pigments.NOTE: The product may have differing shades according to the application conditions.COPYRIGHT1.6 SAFETY PRECAUTIONSOrganic zinc-rich coatings may contain reactive chemicals and flammable solvents which may present a risk to users. The manufacturers Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) should be adhered to.Personal protective equipment, as recommended by the manufacturers MSDS, should be worn during mixing and application.Users need to be aware that due to the weight of zinc dust incorporated into these products, consideration needs to be given to manual handling of heavy containers. The Standard is downloaded from Standard SharingS E C T I O N2M A T E R I A LR E Q U I R E M E N T S 2.1 GENERALThe paint shall comply with the requirements detailed in Clauses 2.2 to 2.6 inclusive. These properties and requirements are summarized in Table 1.2.2 PIGMENT2.2.1 Pigment contentThe total zinc content of the non-volatile content shall be not less than 85 percent by mass or greater than 94 percent by mass.2.2.2 Pigment constituentsThe zinc dust pigment shall comply with the following compositional requirement by mass: Total zinc (as Zn) . 98 percent min. Metallic zinc (as Zn) . 94 percent min. Total lead (as Pb) . 0.2 percent max. Total cadmium (as Cd) . 0.1 percent max. Total iron (as Fe) . 0.05 percent max. Arsenic (as As) . 0.0005 percent max.NOTE: The zinc oxide content may be calculated as the difference between the total zinc contentand the metallic zinc content.2.2.3 Particle sizeThe particle size of dry pigment shall be such that not more than 0.1 percent by mass is retained on a 75 µm test sieve complying with AS 1152.2.3 CONDITIONS OF TESTUnless otherwise specified in this Standard, the following test conditions shall apply:(a) The test panel material and its preparation shall be in accordance with Appendix D. (b)The type and size of test panels shall be as specified in Table 1.(c) The dry film thickness shall be 50 m to 85 m.(d) Conditions for testing shall be in accordance with AS/NZS 1580.101.5.(e) Conditions for air-drying shall be in accordance with AS/NZS 1580.101.1.2.4 LIQUID PAINT2.4.1 Condition in containerWhen examined in accordance with AS 1580.103.1 at the time of delivery from the manufacturer or supplier, the paint shall be free from gel, coarse particles, skins and foreign matter. The product shall be readily re-incorporated when tested in accordance with AS/NZS 1580.211.2.2.4.2 Volume solidsWhen determined in accordance with AS 1580.301.2, the volume solids shall be within 5 percent of the manufacturers specification.2.4.3 Storage properties2.4.3.1 Degree of settlingWhen stored at 23 ±3°C in sealed, unopened containers for 6 months from the date of manufacture, the rating for the settling whendetermined in accordancewith AS/NZS 1580.211.1 shall be not less than 6.2.4.3.2 Re-incorporation after storageWhen stored at 23 ±3°C in sealed, unopened containers for 6 months from the date of manufacture, and tested in accordance with AS/NZS 1580.211.2, the paint shall be readily re-incorporated and be of uniform consistency free from lumps, gel and other defects.2.4.4 Freedom from coarse particlesAfter manual stirring of the product or its components, any undispersed aggregates retained on a 150 µm test sieve complying with AS 1152 shall not exceed 0.5% by mass of the total product.2.5 APPLICATION PROPERTIES2.5.1 GeneralWhen applied in accordanc
