The beginning of the semester will address questions in kinetics, adsorption and electrochemistry and the latter part will deal with surface chemistry, agregation and Spectroscopy. Students in the laboratory course will rotate through the list of experiments in 2 groups, designated I and II to best utilize our available equipments. You will be assigned a group designation during the first lecture session. All experiments will be performed in Chem 309 unless otherwise noted. Below is a list of all experiment in this course:Group I1. Determination of equilibrium of adsorption of an orgnic acid by activated carbon in aqueous medium2. Transference number (Hittorf method)3. Potentiometric titration4. Kinetics of Bromate-Bromide reaction5. Kinetics of hydroxyl crystal violet reaction6. Kinetics of the decomposition of benzene diazonium chlorideGroup II1. Surface tension2. Viscosity (size of a molecule from viscosity measurements)3. Electrical conductance4. Determination of the critical micelle concentration5. Determination of the mean aggregation number of a micellar system6. Kinetics of the reduction of methylene blue by ascorbic acid7. Origin of color
