English, as the most popular language in the world, has a lot of effects on the tourist industry. This design initiates with the preparation of guiding a tourist trip such as picking the guests at the airport and getting to the Hostel. Then it specifically illustrates the the travelling process ranging from the visits of CBD, Tianyi Pavilion, Dongqian Lake to that of the Five-Dragon pond, analysing the distinctive features and individual status and significance of each tourist site in the city of Ningbo. It concludes that enriching knowledge and latest news and trends concerning tourism is required for each English major.Key Words: tour, tourist group, Ningbo, English 1. IntroductionAs is known to all, Ningbo is the earliest open city in China. It has rich cultural resources and modern science and technology which leads to Ningbos being a tourist city.Therefore, the tourists who come from all over the world come to Ningbo to enjoy the beautiful scenery. However, culture and language barriers become a huge problem. For example, the guide who is not from Ningbo has less knowledge about Ningbo. Or she or he may be has a low limit in spoken English, which results in the fact that the foreign tourists can hardly enjoy their trip in our beautiful city.This design is based on the situation that my English is professional and I can make use of the advantages of Ningbos local students. From the airport to Ningbo，I will picking up a foreign tour group and send them out to Ningbo in the end. Also I will arrange the two days trip as fellow. Design a practical operation of the tourist process, and also improve the ability of solving problems of mine .Give the foreign tourist an amazing trip and show them a totally different city about trip. 2. The Design Scheme of Travelling 2.1 PreparationFirst, we must know the basic background information of Ningbo.Ningbo is the home to the 7,000-year-old Hemudu Neolithic Culture. It has Chinas existing oldest private library. It also has many moving stories, such as Legend of Butterfly Lovers, cloth dragon (Fenghua), Pingdiao Opera (Ninghai) and cinnabar and gold lacquer wood caving, which have been listed in Chinas first batch of Intangible Cultural Heritage Catalog. This place is home to the East Zhejiang School in Ming and Qing Dynasties. Ningbo borders Taizhou to the south and Shaoxing to the west. Both of them are famous cities with a long history. And Ningbo is separated from Zhoushan by a narrow body of water.It is often said that country thrives with the efforts by its people, and a city becomes famous because of its culture. Today, on this land with a long history of culture and prosperous economy, the drive of building of a cultural city has been started, to carry on the fine tradition of being a famous historical and cultural city. Last year, Ningbo held totally 23 international and domestic matches or contests such as International Womens Volleyball Tournament, the finals of Womens World Volleyball Grand Prix, Dongqian Lake World Invitation Race of Dragon Boat, National Boxing Championship, the preliminary trampoline contest of The 6th National City Sports Meeting, the home games of Bayi mens and womens basketball teams, etc. Whats more, after the Chinese womens volleyball team chose Ningbo as its training base in the year before last, another 3 national teams chose Ningbo as their training base last year. They are Chinese Table Tennis Training Base in Beilun District, Chinese International Chess Training Base in Yinzhou District and Chinese Sepak Takraw Training .Chinese Womens Volleyball Team will continue to take Beilun District as its home court during 2009 to 2012. The teams main international matches during the next round of Olympic period will take place there.To make a long story short, the Combination of both China and West makes people want to go to Ningbo, and see how beautiful the city is. 2.1.1 The Basic Information of a Tourist GroupThe organization responsible for guiding the tourists: Ningbo Young People Traveling Co.Ltd.The name of the group: the guides name is Wang Jun (male)The telephone number: 15267899698The number of the tourists: 16 The fee of this tour: about RMB800 for each person (pre-payment)Accommodations: No.201, LiuTing Street, Haishu District, Ningbo, Zhengjiang Province Transportation: renting the busTime: July 9th-10th, 2011After that , I will prepare for many things as follow.2.1.2 Preparation before the Tourists ArriveBefore the international tourists arrive, we must get everything ready, including accommodation, dining, travel route and so on. The guide will greet tourists at Ningbo international Airport and do a series of things. I should make sure of the accurate time when the foreign tourists will arrive; I will inform the driver and the director to be ready to go to the airport. After that, the people concerned arrive at the airport and maintain a pleasant mood and begin to wait for the tourists. Besides, I must make sure that I will get to the airport earlier than the tourists.2.1.3 Picking up the Tour Group at the AirportNingbo Li She International Airport is the only airport in Ningbo. But it is not close to the center of the city. Make sure that I will get to the airport earlier than the tourists, which is the most important. You can not expect the tourists to wait for the guide in a totally strange place and it is a basic politeness. It will cost about 30 minutes to go to the airport form the Youth Hostel.After I go to the airport, I will take charge of raising the cardboard on which the name of the tourist group is written in both English and Chinese, therefore, as soon as the tourists get off the plane, they can notice it and find their guide easily. Then, I will try to help them carry their baggage before the band carrier. Make sure everybody will be there. After that, I will give a short talk to them and offer the tourists some time to know each other. At last, I will lead the tourists to get on bus. (On bus)Firstly, I will give a brief introduction.Secondly, I will inform the tourists of the two days arrangements.Thirdly, I will inform the tourists of the local expressions and the hotel to stay at.At last, I will introduce the hotel for the tourists. (Two tourists living together in one room )2.1.4 Getting into the Hostel The tourists will arrive at Youth Hostel at about 3:00 pm. Let them have a rest for a short time, then lead the tourist group to use the first snacks in the hotel. The snacks is TangYuan which is stuffed dumplings made of glutinous rice flour served in soup. That is a famous special local product in Ningbo. The staff of travel association will arrange the tourists to have a rest and prepare to go traveling.2.2 Travelling Process2.2.1 Visiting the CBD, Heart of Ningbo 1In, 18:00pmWe will arrive to bund in 18:30 pm. The guide leads tourists to the Bund and gives them 2 hours to play by themselves. They will get together in 20:30 behind the Christianity churchChristianity churchIntroduction: The bund is located at Shanjiang and is in the center of Ningbo. It is a place which combines the West and East together. Beside the Bund, there is a busiest street in Ningbo. So they called the Bund the heart of Ningbo, which means both heart of culture and economy. You can not only see many tea houses filled with many old people beside the road, but also smell the coffee even when you are far from the café.Since Tang Dynasty, Ningbo has become one of the most important ports. So the bund is also an old port in the history. When you take a seat in The Bund with a bottle of wine, suddenly the warm wind blow on your face and the boat in the distance becomes closer and closer, which is an amazing feeling.The bund, through the preserving historic buildings and street scenes, and implanted the new urban culture. It combines the old history and morden development together. And it also mix the west and east together. The cultural relics, years, traditional and new buildings gradually form the different historical period become the witness and the carrier. Today well give modern means to the Bund. You can choose to eat and play here, enjoy yourself and go shopping, entertain for the integration of fashion consumption center. In a word, the bund must give the foreign tourists a deep and good impression. Because the bund always attracts many foreigners, choose the bund to be the first stop in Ningbo is bound to be the best choice.Note: Teaching the tourists some simple Chinese is very important and practical. Because the tourists have less time to have a good rest. I must take control of the time properly.2.2.2 Visiting Tianyi Pavilion, Brain of Ningbo 2We will arrive at Tianyi Pavilion at 9:30am. I will lead the tourists to the Tianyige museum and introduce the museum in English. We will leave the Tianyige museum at around 11:00 am.Introduction: The Tianyige Museum is the biggest museum in collect the old books all over the world. The collected books include many areas like medicine, science, agriculture and so on. So the specialist called the Tianyi Pavilion the Brain of Ningbo, even the Brain of world.The holder is an important official in Song Dynasty. The environment is quiet and tasteful, the botanical garden is fine, the building is plain, and it bears rich local characteristics. In Song Dynasty it is as a famous private library. And it is also one of extant earliest three private libraries in the world. It constructs from the bright Jiajing 40 years to 45 years (A.D. 1561-1566), Presently, it has each kind of ancient books for nearly 300,000 volumes. In the TianYige museum, I will divide the tourist into several groups and let them visit the museum by free. And I will teach them some simple Chinese and make sure they could know how to enter the museum and how to out of it.Note: Because there are many important cultural relics which could not catch the flash. I must tell the foreign tourists that they must be careful in taking photoes.2.2.3 Visiting Dongqian Lake, Lung of Ningbo【1】We will arrive at the Dongqian Lake at 13:00. I will lead the tourists to Tao Gong Fishing Rocky and The Stone Park of Southern Song Dynasty.Introduction: Dongqian Lake is located in Ningbo , 7.8km away from downtown is the largest inland natural freshwater lake in Zhejiang province. From south to the north, Dongqian Lake is 8.5km long and 6.5km wide from east to west. The lake has an area of 20 square kilometers, which is 4 times larger than West Lake of Hangzhou. So they regarded Dongqian Lake as the lung of Ningbo.Dongqian Lake can be divided into three parts: Guzi Lake, Mei Lake and Outer Lake. In this trip , I will show the tourist some places of interest in Dongqian Lake ,for example Tao Gong Fishing Rocky and the Stone Park of Southern Song Dynasty. Both of them have a long history .Because the Tao Gong Fishing Rocky is closer than the Stone Park of Southern Song Dynasty, so I choose the Rocky be our first station.2.2.3.1 Tao Gong Fishing RockyIn this place I will tell the story about Tao Gong to the tourists. It is said that Dr. Fan li retired from the public has more secluded fishing with Xishi here. How beautiful the story is! Tao Gong prefers to face nature rather than face the people. It is another way of life for which many people pursue.Tao Gong Fishing Rocky2.2.3.2 Stone Park of Southern Song DynastyIn the Stone Park of Southern Song Dynasty, you can see the civil officials, military commanders, squatting tiger, standing horse, kneeling sheep representing loyalty, bravery, celebrating festival, righteousness, filial piety”.In the Stone Park of Southern Song Dynasty, I will let the tourists visit the park with some small group, may be families or couples. I will also tell them that the small gift in the park is very expensive. They can choose some rocks for gift and teach them some simple Chinese for barging with the shop holder.Stone Park of Southern Song DynastyNote: Dongqian Lake is one of the most important sources of water. I must tell the tourists that they can not throw the rubbish into water.2.2.4 Visiting the Five-Dragon Pond, Eyes of NingboIntroduction: Five-Dragon Pond has the area of about 16.17 square kilometers. It has a special type of mountain (in the area around the mountains, with tall and straight hills, cliff towering, deep valleys. The beautiful scenery and the clean air can make tourists return to natural landscape, taste mountain village scenery. Also they can touch the east local culture, enjoy leisure demand. Scenic spot has a powerful Hua xia folk culture which is called “dragon worship”. Because it is like many eyes shinning in this area, the Five-Dragon Pond is called Eyes of Ningbo. Summer is the best season to visit Five-Dragon Pond. Many falls are hidden in the valley and the water is pure and sweet.Note: the Five-Dragon Pond has many deep ponds in which the water is very cold, I must remind the tourists of the fact that they cant swim in the ponds.2.2.5 Leaving Ningbo After a happy two-day tour, its the time for the tourists to go back to their own country. The tourists get together at the Youth Hostel. Then, I will tell the tourists to check their luggage, and not to leave anything in the hotel. After that, I will lead the tourists to get on bus and send the tourists to the airport.When they come to the airport, I will give everyone a special gift to end this unforgettable tour.3. ConclusionIn this tour, every foreign tourist enjoys themselves very much. This journey must be unforgettable. In Ningbo, we can enjoy the natural scenery and old culture. It gives us a pleasant view and an unforgettable experience.From my job of acting as a guide, I find it not easy to be a good tourist guide in Ningbo or even in any other plac
