Can they insist on their affection and break all the obstacles and get married in the end ? Today ,I am going to meet Gail's parents .But will they agree with our marriage as I am from a different nation and I have problems with citizenship .What if they disagree with our marriage ? What should I do if Gail was persuaded by her parents and change her mind ? Calm down and take it easy，it will not happen. I want to tell you some good news. I am going to marry Mark. M: What ? Are you kidding ? You mean you are going to marry the black boy with whom you are dating these days ? G: Yeah, I am going to marry Mark . M: Well, I think you need to think more about it before making the decision. G: What do you mean ? So it was all right for me to date him ,but it is wrong for me to marry him .Is his color the problem ,Mom?” M: No, of course not . To start with I must admit that at first I harbored reservations about a mixed marriage ,prejudices you might even call them .But when I met Mark I found him a charming and intelligent young guy .Any mother would be proud to have him for a son-in-law. So color has nothing to do with it .Yes ,my friends talk. Some even express shock at what you are doing . But they live in a different world .So you see ,Mark's color is not the problem. My biggest worry is that you may be marrying Mark for the same wrong reasons that I married your father .When we met I saw him as my beloved ,intelligent ,charming ,and caring. It was an ideal marriage with every indication that it would last forever .I realized only later that I did not know my beloved ,your father ,very well when we married.” G: But Mark and I have been together more than two years, We have been through so much together .We have seen each other at our worst many times .I am sure that time will only confirm what we feel deeply about each other .” M: You may be right .But I still think that waiting will not hurt .You are only twenty-five. K: (Mark steps in) Mrs Deborah ,I know you have some doubts and worries. But please do trust me that I will do whatever I can to take care of Gail .Even through there are some cultural differences and my current situation is not very good. I promise I will spare no efforts to make Gail live a happy life in the future, M: All right! What I hope is that you can achieve real happiness in the future. But you have to persuade your father first. G: Dad, I know you must be very happy to hear the news that I am going to marry Marka handsome black boy. D: Didn't I hear it wrong ? You say you say you are going to marry a black boy .Why the haste ? Who is this Mark ? And what is his citizenship status ? G: We have been together for more than two years and have been through ups and downs together. Mark is a really good and reliable man. But he has some problems with his citizenship now. D: Do you know him well ? Are you sure his marrying you is not for the reason to remain in the United States? G: But dad, that is harsh , Mark is a nice man and I know him quiet well. D: Then why the haste? G: Mark has had problems with citizenship before and had always taken care of them himself. In fact ,he made it very clear when we were discussing marriage that if I had any doubts about anything ,I should not hesitate to cancel our plans.” D: Have you thought about the hardships your children could go through ? You know that mixed couple had a higher divorce rates than the couples of the same race. G: Dad, are you a racist ? D: No, of course not .But you have to be realistic. G: Maybe our children will have some problems ,but whose children do not ? But there is one thing that they will always have- our love and devotion . D: That is idealistic .People can be very cruel toward children from mixed marriages. G: Dad ,we will worry about that when the time comes. If we had to resolve all doubt before we acted , very little would ever get done. D: Remember ,it is never too late to change your mind. G: I will never change my mind, never change my mind. K: (Mark steps in) Mr , I know you are for the benefit of us and I understand that there must be some difficulty in the future .But with the love we have for each other , I believe I can give Gail a happy life .I promise I will protect and love Gail even at the cost of my own life. G: Dad. D: Since both of you are so determined , how can I say no ! I hope you can understand ,respect and trust each other and live a happy life . A: Gail and Mark succeeded in persuading their parents to agree with their marriage with their effort. We do not know whether they will live a happy life .We hope so. From the point of my view, true love is regardless of nations and cultures as long as the two who get married is because of they have love for each other not for other reasons, they can live a happy life.
