It is divided into five sections by three causeways. There are numerous temples, pagodas, gardens, and artificial islands within the lake. West Lake has influenced poets and painters throughout China's history for its natural beauty and historic relics, and it has also been among the most important sources of inspiration for Chinese garden designers. It was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011, described as having "influenced garden design in the rest of China as well as Japan and Korea over the centuries” and reflecting "an idealized fusion between humans and nature". Recent years, more and more visitors come to West Lake; it is one of the most popular sites in China. During the next journey, I will guide you to visit the most beautiful sites of West Lake, I Hope you can follow my steps and listen to me carefully. Firstly, we are going to Sudi Causeway in Spring Dawn, the first sites in West Lake, it is a dyke which is filled with beautiful trees and flows, South from the foothills of Nan Ping, north to Qi Xia Hill, nearly three kilometers in length, width 36 meters on average. There are many kinds of trees and flowers such as weeping willow, flowering peach, Chinese flowering crabapple, Confederate rose Chinese wistaria and so on beside the dyke. When spring comes, willow trees swing slightly in the breeze. Peach trees are full of blooms, giving out intoxicating fragrance, when you walk on the dyke in spring, you will feel like entering the paradise. Sudi Causeway in Spring Dawn became a tourist attraction as early as 1090. That year, Su Dongpo, a famous poet in the Song Dynasty and the governor of Hangzhou, had the lake dredged. The silt and debris were piled up and formed into a causeway. In order to honor the poet governor, local people named the Causeway after him. Todays causeway is the result of many refurbishing projects over centuries. Romanticized as Spring Dawn by Sudi Causeway, the scenery has stayed on the top of the best ten resorts around the West Lake since the Southern Song Dynasty. At dawn, At dawn, the lake is so serene that only chirps of birds can be heard. The lake surface mirrors the sky and bridge reflections. Peach blossoms resemble smiling faces. Walking on the causeway, one can look at the lake and the surrounding hills, absorbing all the visual and aural pleasures created by the breathtaking panorama. According to the legend of White Snake, the beautiful girl who was actually a white snake met Xu Xian on the bridge in the rain and they fell in love with each other at the first sight, the umbrella they used became the symbol of their love. Thanks to the immortal love story, the broken bridge attracts numerous visitors. Its legendary reputation spread far and wide all over China. Many people believe the bridge is the number one place for people in love, you have to value the time you visit the bridge, because you may find you true love on the broken bridge. After the story, I will tell you something about its romantic name, it is also a legend of China, A poor couple inhabited next to a broken bridge, one day they met an old man who is very hungry, the couple treated him the fish they have angled from West Lake and the wine the woman made, the old man give the couple a good medicine to make wine as honorarium. Tanks to the medicine, the poor couple became rich, when the old man came again they wanted to give him a lot of money to thank him, but they old man hint the couple that he is immortal and ask them to renew the broken bridge. So the bridge was called broken bridge, poems in Tang Dynasty also mentioned the broken bridge. The bridge is not only filled with romance, but also has very beautiful scenery. Rain or shine, you can enjoy the lake views from the bridge in all seasons. The seasonal scenery changes at the bridge itself are equally breathtaking, especially when the snow begins melting in sunshine in the winter. Although the snowy beauty of the scenery is a little bit chilly and lonely, many people regard it better than noisy greens and reds in other seasons and they believe the Broken Bridge fully deserves the top position. It has enjoyed for hundreds of years as the best one of the Ten Westlake Scenic Spots. When I mention Afternoon View of Lei Feng Tower ,you may think about the famous Chinese legend White Snake, but in fact, the tower is not used to lock up the main character of the legend, it was built by the king of Wu Yue to celebrate the concubine gave birth to a prince, and pray for peace and prosperity. Because the Lei Feng Tower is located in the west of the city, people also called the West Tower. Owing to the tower locates in a hill named Lei Feng, the modern people renamed the tower as Lei Feng Tower. When the sun was setting, the pagoda bathed in the evening glow looked radiantly beautiful. It was therefore named as “Afternoon View of Lei Feng Tower”. In Lu xuns article, Lei Feng tower is regarded as the symbol of feudal forces. In Ming Dynasty, the pagoda was fired by the Japanese bandits. To make things worse, due to the local people thought the bricks of the Lei Feng tower can be a talisman, they brought the bricks. Finally Lei Feng tower collapsed on September 25th 1924. Fortunately, according to the citizens request, the government of Hang Zhou rebuilt the Lei Feng Tower. Everybody, it is time to say goodbye.
