TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE 相约星期二英文版书评.doc
Tuesdays with Morrie“THE RUNAWAY BESTSELLER THAT CHANGED MILLIONS OF LIVES” ”an old man, a young man, and lifes greatest lesson”.Those words were printed on the cover of this book, which impress me a lot. I really need a book like this.”What is the life?”Its sure it is to be a complicated question. "How would you feel if you knew you were dying? Mitch Albom, the author, tells a true story of Morrie Schwartz who is dying of ALS. A brave man with a positive view of the world, Morrie believes that one cannot learn how to live unless one knows how to die. Mitch, one of his students accidentally learns of Morrie's situation and begins to visit Morrie every Tuesday. Morrie, as a teacher again, inspiring him with life's final lesson. The old professor teaches him new things about life, the things we should cherish and what we should really look for. There are fourteen Tuesdays, the theme of which are the World,Feeling Sorry for Yourself, Regrets, Death, Family,Emotions, the Fear of Aging, Money, How Love Goes On, Marriage, Our Culture, Forgiveness, the Perfect Day, and Say Good-bye. Every Tuesday involves a lot. Morrie is a strong man. When facing the death, he is not that desperate. Instead,he would make death his final project, the center point of his days. Since everyone was going to die, he could be of great value, right? He could be research. A human textbook.”Study me in my slow and patient demise.Watch what happens to me.Learn with me.”Thats what he said, peaceful and quite satisfied. He decided to live, at least try to live with dignity, with courage, with humor, with composure. He is also a kind old man.”He would never do any work that exploited someone else, and he would never allow himself to make money of the sweat of others.” I doubt whether the author is criticizing the capitalism.(Well, just kidding) “Accept what you are able to do and what you are not able to do”;”Accept the past as past, without denying it or discarding it”;”Learn to forgive yourself and to forgive others”;”Dont assume that its too late to get involved”I love these four sentences. He tells us to be realistic. Moreover, we are encouraged to establish our own culture, not the societys, at least not to follow blindly.”So mang of us walk around with a meaningless life. Because we are chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.” He encourage people “If you really want it, then youll make your dream happen”.Just do it! Its not just the advertisement of Nike. Its quite an positive impulse: take action immediately! Furthermore, there is an interesting concept in this novel which is called detachment .”detachment doesnt mean you dont let the experience penetrate you.On the contrary, you let it penetrate you fully. That is how you are able to leave it. If you dont allow yourself to go all the way through them, you can never get to being detached” Teenagers like us,usually have struggles, strife, feelings of inadequacy, sense that life was miserable. We are not satisfied with our lives. After reading the words,we are calmer.Well, it seems quite normal. But still, there are a lot of people spend much of their time in grieving, crying, mourning. The professor expose the weakness of human-beings. He said ”You are afraid of the pain, youare afraid of the grief.Youre afraid of the vulnerability that loving entails.” We are afraid, we are not that strong. He suggested ”detach from that emotion for a moment.accept it, get to a peaceful place, and let go.”Let it go, its okay, never mind, relax. I was touched by the mild, peaceful discussion and interaction between the teacher and the student. “You talk, I listen” is their promise. Keep it. Although one of them passed away, their story is there, ever.
