Job detailsJob title:Middleweight Graphic DesignerDirectorate:Chief Executives Office, Section Communications and MarketingReporting to:Design and Print ManagerGrade:SO1Job descriptionPurpose of the post:· To design a wide range of print and online materials for the promotion of The Learning Trust and its activities.· To work closely with the Design and Print Manager in the delivery of flexible, responsive and client-focused design service.Main duties and responsibilities:· To produce designs for The Learning Trust publicity material across a broad range of media, including posters, leaflets, press adverts, programs, invitations, exhibition displays and signage.· To assist the Design and Print Manager in the creation of design solutions to briefed projects, taking into account the target audience, budget and production schedules as specified in the briefing document and in line with the communications strategy corporate identity and brand strategy.· To ensure The Learning Trust corporate identity is applied consistently and coherently across all designs.· To co-ordinate the production of high quality publicity materials as required and manage the process from concept to delivery.· To guide internal and external clients through a design brief from concept to production.· To communicate and present design concepts clearly to internal and external clients in a culturally diverse and multilingual environment.· To assist the Design and Print Manager in negotiating and purchasing related services, including the commission of freelance designers, photographers and printers within allocated budgets, ensuring the most cost effective options are fully explored.· Where appropriate to progress chase and to supervise the working schedules of those commissioned.· To prepare finished artwork for print production, either by conventional means or Apple Mac.· To liaise with external suppliers (printers and contractors) in supply of artwork and approval of proofs.· To handle multiple design projects concurrently, prioritise, report on progress and deliver within budget and on time.· To quality control each design project undertaken prior to going to print.· To ensure good client relationships are maintained and developed including departmental, designers print and ICT.· To assist with developing manuals in both print and online formats for the correct use of the corporate guidelines across the business.· To find the most effective way to get messages across in print, electronic, and film media using a variety of methods such as colour, type, illustration, photography, animation, and various print and layout techniques· To illustrate publications and promotional materials (posters, leaflets books and other materials for primary and secondary schools and children centres) creating high quality illustrations (cartoons, mascots, caricatures etc).· To create animations (e-cards, media presentations, web banners) for companys online and promotional material· To create three-dimensional representations of promotional displays and spaces for events and campaigns. · Create teaching resource materials for teachers, packaging, and marketing brochures for products and services. Conceptualise and design distinctive brands for specific campaigns, and develop signs and signage systems.· To photograph material/people/situations to be applied to the designs and publications (understanding of the photographic process + photographic skills required)· To quality control all the designs/materials produced by company (understanding of the printing process required: offset lithography/digital/large format). · To consider cognitive, cultural, physical, and social factors in planning and executing designs for culturally and linguistically diverse target audience.· To develop and maintain an archive of all printed materials.· To develop and maintain an image bank available to all stakeholders and internal staff.· To attend evening meetings and events relevant to the post holders duties.· To make full and appropriate use of Information technology and systems.· To undertake additional or other duties as may be appropriate to achieve the objectives of the post and as directed and deemed appropriate by the Line Manager.General requirements:· The post holder must at all times carry out his/her responsibilities with due regard to The Learning Trusts policy, organisation and arrangements for Health and Safety at Work.· It is your responsibility to carry out your duties in line with The Learning Trusts policy on Equality and Diversity and be sensitive and caring to the needs of others, promoting a positive approach to a harmonious working environment.· You must promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young and vulnerable people that you are responsible for or come into contact with.Job title:Middleweight Graphic DesignerPerson SpecificationEssentialDesirableQualifications1. Degree in Graphic or Industrial Design or equivalent professional qualification.ü2. Proven written skills in English language and in basic Mathematics GCSE or equivalent qualification.üExperience3. Substantial experience in personally producing clear creative solutions to brief in an in-house or consultancy role.ü4. Flair for working creatively within corporate identity guidelines.ü5. Ability to guide internal and external clients through a design brief from concept to production.ü6. Ability to communicate clearly and present design concepts to internal and external clients.ü7. In-depth knowledge of pre-press and print production.ü8. Proven ability (through portfolio and/or qualification) using CS2/3 (Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and InDesign) and QuarkXPress.ü11. Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.ü12.
