A Comparative Study on Education in America and ChinaAbstract:Education is a process of teaching people. It help people to know, accommodate the society and develope themslves in the society. Different counties have different types of education and each of them shows distinctive features and is closely responsive to its culture. And American education is the most famous one among them. Studying on theose differences between China and America is good for the reformation of Chinese education. The author hopes to find a satisfied education method through comparation. At the same time, the author hopes this thesis can provide some helpful suggestions for education in order to make children grow more healthily and roundly . Main Body:.The differences of education between America and China: 1.The concepts of education are different .The obvious difference between the two nations is the concepts. For example, what is the most basal thing in the elementary period? In the area of mathmatics, Chinese teachers think it is inmportant to learn the basic concepts and operations. So they don 't allow students to use calculators. But in America, calculators are wild used by primary school students. Because the Americans think it's a waste of time to remember those operations since they can use a computer. In China, we think it's good to remember konwledge as much as we can. In a word, when in a close-exam, Chinese students get higher scores than American students. While in the real-world where researchers can use many kinds of tools, American people always achieve more. Obviously, in the area of using and practicing brains, the methords of Chinese education is helpful. But the American educaton have more advantages of teaching pepeole to comprehensive utilize every informations from the outside world. Americans think students should learn things from different areas while most Chinses students study only in one area. Usually, students from the west are feel confident and independent. And the eastern students have a cagy, rigorous spirit. In the view of developing the innovation ability, Chinese people are more self-controlled because they are afraid to making mistakes. A good basic skills is helpful for creation, but it's also a fetter and encumbrance to think wildly. The western eduction dose't set up a aptotic cyclostyle which different pepeole have different views of a same situation. There isn't a "right" answer. The Americns encurage people to create while Chinese teathchers ask children to pattern the "right" answer which has already been built. So ,we can see that the basic direction of education is different between the two powers. The eastern education regards pattern as a very important skill: if you know nothing and have a little basic kownledge, what can you create? So Chinese students always begin their study by patterning. But both in theory and daily activities, Americans stress the importance of creation. In order to actualize this kind of idea, they have to abandon "criterion" . Because a appointed "right" answer is a antinomy when refers to creartion. So we can see that the antinomy between basic theory and creartion is the reason why there is such a big difference in concepts of education between the two countries.2. The methods are different between America and China .We have to admire that study is a quite toilsome process. At least only when we are junior school stutents can we feel the pleasures from studying. Because we have no intrests in learning things at the very begining. Since the kindergarden period, the main task is helping children to overcome their natrue of acedia. Comparing the the ways of two sides, Chinese education is more useful. It's strict and high-quality reguires are very efficiency. Playing and learning at the same time are quite good, but it's not so good when compared with the strict way of studying. However, genius always come from the hard-working. It's a natural rule that the inputs decide the outputs. So in general, the quality of Chiese education is higher than American.Of course, the nummber of high-skilled personnel in China is lower . It is ture becouse we suffered a lot during the Cultural Revolution. But we have catch up in recent years, that's why western universities break a rule to admmit Chinese students.The biggest difference between the two sides is the education in universities. In China, especially in universities of science and engineering, there is a lack of experimental facilities and materials.And in American colleges, students usually work till 2 or 3 pm. Because it's very hard to graduate from American universites. The professors lay stress on the developing of their students' pesonal skills. They like to discuss with their students in a friendly atmosphere. But in china ,it seems to the professors are the generals of their students.The reasons for the differences mentioned above:1. Different historical backgroundChina with a long histroy has a sort of cohesive and conservative sense of worth , which is lack of spirit of adventure and innovative consciousness . There is a shortage of environment in which people can accept new ideas . By contraries , America is a nation of immigrants with a short history , there remains so little traditional culture . With the influence of multi culture and sense of worth , it is easy to accept new thoughts and culture . So America children are better at taking risks and innovating . 2. Different economic formChina has a long histroy with a large population .Therefore , there are so few opportunities to find a job even a good job which can decide ones life happiness . And getting high marks has become a necessary condition to have a good job and future . The condition of econemy in America is better than that in China , so there are more employment opportunities in America . American parents think profession is not distinguished whether it is noble or nidering as long as they can survive in society . 3.Different social conditionsSo far , social security system and old-age care have not been perfect in China . Many Chinese parents take their children as their private possession in order to receive the childrens return , which is reflected in the methods of education . For this reason , their childrens high scores have become their origin of pride . But in America , there is a prosper development of econemy and sane social security system , so American parents dont count on their childrens support . They see educating child to be an independent , conscientious and kindhearted person as their duties .待添加的隐藏文字内容34.Different traditional cultureIn China , people advocate collectivism which emphasize the collective interests more important than personal interests . Therefore , Chinese parents usually replace childrens interests by their own wills and thoughts . They design childrens future standing in the adult angle . Whats more , in Chinese family , parents can raise their children in the lifetime . However , stressing personality , upholding individual development and caring about personal benefit are all the cores of American culture . Rationalistic American parents insist that children after 18 years old should be independent and not rely on their parents . Discussions and Suggestions :Take every thing into consideration, we can conclude that in the area of primary and junior education, China has more advantages and it's way is much more useful and helpful. But when it refers to the education in colledges, American has a more advanced concepts and rich experience. And it also have a better hardware fasility. The result is that students from the East are carefulness, wariness and strict while students from the West are confident, independent and forgetive. In a word, both of the two different kinds of education have it's own advantages and disadvantages.
